Long-Term Running Goals:

Maintain good racing weight but keep running fun! And helping others to believe in themselves.

Keep improving each year for as long as I can.

Win each age category for St. George marathon until I am really old.

Personal:

I am married to Nathan Long and have two cute boys. I enjoy being a mom but running keeps me sane.=) Running is my passion and always will be. I was asked by a friend what I was training for and I said to be skinny. She looked at me (as we just finished 3 hard one mile repeats after I just got done having two crowns put in) and said, "No one trains that hard to be skinny." I said, "I do." To me working out is fun! I love pushing my body to new limits. I think if I had to do just mileage I would go crazy!

Good tempo with Angie and Amy. Started on bonneville terrace and ended on Old post almost to 4600. Tempo felt really good. I think the clean air helps a lot and good company. Only tempo 4 miles but felt like I could have done more so was really happy with it. (5:55, 6:04 (hills) 5:45, 5:45)
Double back 5 miles on TM during naptime.

Had a fever last night of 103.5 but luckily it broke around 1am so I was able to get in somewhat of a long run. Not as long as I was hoping for or as fast since we got new snow fall during the night causing the roads to be slick. Very enjoyable run with Amy, Angie, and Katie.

Loved running in the warm sun of Southern California. Cramped last 1.5 I think from not enough water water fluids after having the fever for 2days and the long run. Decided not to double and let body recover. Best recovery? The beach!

Drove back from California Thursday morning and turned around and drove back to St. George Friday afternoon. Let me tell you if you have not done this race I highly recommend it! I loved it! Not only was it great competition but no buses, no drop off bags start and finish at the same place and the course was awesome!

Course- up and down. You were rewarded for every climb and it had a good climb at mile 6 but had a great drop at mile 7. Finish chute was pretty short which I think is a plus unlike TOU half which feels forever away.

Warmed up 2 miles with Amy Cook and did some strides.

Ran the first 6.5 miles with Kassi Harmon...well she waited for me until then....she is so nice.=) Not only did she do that but she knew I was going to get gatoraid and kindly moved out of the way so I could grab one. After she got so far ahead I never got any further behind and every effort I made to catch her she matched...unknowingly of course being ahead at that point...so I never caught up to her again. I took 2nd with 1:19:22 which put me 27 seconds behind. I feel good about this time due to the fact I had to taper so early with being sick and trying not to make running a priority while visiting family. I feel bad that I couldn't have been better competition for Kassi but hopefully next time I will. I love running with her in races.=)

Conclusion: Highly recommend this one if you have not done it yet and when you hear St. George complain about weather just know everyone from up north-minus Kassi wore short and tanks-thats how warm it is down there.

Probably my first workout I have ever dropped out of. Amy was smart to wait an extra day but I was feeling pretty good so I thought I take advantage of having my friend babysit for me. I strted out the workout with Angie doing 600m at 80 pace. The first one was a wake up call to the fact that its been a while since I have done really fast pace and that breathing in freezing cold air doesn't mix. Here is what happened: 1:58, 1:57, 2:00, 2;02, 2:01, 2:01, 77-400m. So I never like to end slower than I started and I can say each one felt like a mile. But hopefully with some rest my next one will be better. Thinking I will not double this week since I am feeling extremely unmotivated to run.

We all go through spells like this I think from time to time.

Part of it could be winter wearing on you, I know it wears on me. But if I race often I can usually stay motivated. That's the key for me. If I go a couple of months without a race I start losing motivation big time.

But from your recent posts it sounds like you're feeling better again so hopefully that will keep up.

Awesome workout by Amy Cook. I am not quite sure what my 5k pace is but I went with 5:30 pace. 2.5 warm up and cool down. Did the workout at Weber State's indoor track.

4x(800(2min rest),400(90sec),200(1min),1000) with 3min set break

800-2:45    800-2:44       800-2:45        800-2:43

1000-3:32   1000-3:31      1000-3:31     1000-3:31

It was really nice to have marks to go off of instead of using the garmin. Really even pacing as well. Felt pretty good until halfway through the third set then I was breathing pretty hard. I decided to do 5k effort mile effort mile effort and 10k effort. This was a hard one to do alone but glad I did all four sets.

I always like running with Rosy because we never run out of things to talk about and its all over from kid to husbands to professional runners to races to workouts we can never have a long enough run to get the whole conversation in and all the while we are maintaining a 645 650 average on rolling hills. I am pretty sure my hips are just out of alignment, I did 3 warm up then 5X1 mile at 5:27 pace with 2 min rest in between, then cool down 2 miles. This workout kicked my butt, but felt good at the same time. My last one my right leg started to cramp a little which definately has me thinking my hips are out. Okay, it has been a while since I wrote anything. I have really hit a mental wall this year. I am so thankful for all my friends who have there to keep me treking along. Between Amy cook, Angie Beebe, Katie Thompson, Jodi Brunson(not a runner), and otherrunners in the community everyone has helped pick me up. I have been struggling mentally in every race. I recently tried to defeat Ogden marathons course again and never had the goal to win (although you always think it would be nice) but mostly i wanted to have a good experience. I made a rookie mistake of not pacing myself but going off of my friend for the first 3 and even though I dropped back my pace was still to fast. I was hurting bad at 15 and struggled to 23, and made the decision to drop out. I felt like I had nothing to prove by finishing the distance and since I was far off of a good time and really walking parts of it by then I just wanted to pretend like it was a really bad dream.

I am so grateful to all those who sought me out after. For all the hugs and the tears and the words of encouragement. I have decided to stick with what I know best which is half marathons, and maybe I will do some 50 milers every once in a while. =) So here is to the start of new training, new confidence building (one race at a time), and to have fun again. I hope to see ya at Utah Valley Half Marathon!

Ran with Amy in windy South Weber. It is amazing how annoying wind can be but with friends you hardly realize its there. Easy recovery run.....with a couple of bathroom breaks.

Definitely didn't plan to go this far, but the opportunity rose and I took it. My kids went to Grandmas for a few days so this was my last morning with no massages to do. I ran 55mins with Katie and lifted in the parking lot with my friend Sue and then ran 70 mins with Missy, Alydia, and Anna (elite masters group). Then we went to breakfast an I got an omlet and pancakes. My idea morning! I Love running.

I ran with Amy today. As we were about to take off she said, "So I was thinking about doing 200m hill repeats today. Is that okay?" I must have had this look on my face because she then said, "Well just a thought." I recovered quick and agreed. I convinced her to use this trail that goes uphill between these two houses. This is no ordinary trail. There are stairs, steep drop offs switch backs, roots over grown plants, the sound of a stream alongside it, and boulders you have to run over. The trail is about 600m long and I have done hill repeats before on it. So we did 200m hard up, jog down, and turn around and repeated 8 times. It was pretty awesome...in a intense pain sort of way. I loved it!

Amy and I decided to do our long run on Friday since she was leaving for Cali and I was running with an old friend in Provo who isn't ready to go longer then 8 miles. Traisl in Ogden we awesome....just sayin....

Ran with my old friend Katie Bowen Wood. Love this girl! Running with her reminded me of my cometitive fun side. Where lifting was just for fun. I told her I wish I lived closer because I know I could talk her into doing all kinds of crazy things.=) I actually really enjoyed just running the streets of provo. Super stoked for Utah Valley half!

10 miles on the trail in 80 degrees at 7:15 at night! Can I just say how much I love the Ogden trails!! Only trails can be pleasant in this heat after 3 hours in the pool with the kiddos. Now on to my elk burger mmmmmmmm.

I was going to workout but was feeling pretty sick to my stomach....ugh can't wait to be done being a girl for the month. Took two biferol iron pills with orange juice hoping this will help my sluggish feeling.

8 miles on trails with a big group!e have so many runners in Ogden its a shame we never get together. I am going to try and do better get in contact with people to run. Quads are so exhausted. I think I need a deep deep deep massage on them and a good ice bath. I also think I will take off the next few days which will be hard because I want to run but I don't want to feel dead all the time so I need to be smart. I also started the 3 day ab challenge thats floating around on facebook. Just thought I give it a shot. Always looking for a new challange. Happy running!

The plan was to do pregressive 2 mile repeats but apparently my body wanted to do soething different. I did 2.25 warm up. The 3x2 miles (6:00,5:57)(6:00,5:55)(5:57, 5:55) 2.5 mile cool down. All well, frist workout back since 4 days off I am happy about it. =) Oh and 3mins rest inbetween sets.

All I had time to run today was 6miles pushing the double stroller..benefit of not marathon training I didn't mind the shorter mileage day. Had a full day of massages ahead of me and last achievement day activity. Busy day.

I wanted 10x1000m at half marathon pace with 1 min rest inbetween. I've been thinking I haven't been pushing myself hard for a while. So instead of trying the times I know I would try to push a little harder this time. Normally I go 3:37 for a 1000m and last time I actually did them at 3:36 really comfortably. I kept waiting for the pain to hit but it never did. So this time I wanted to try 3:32. I did it! I mostly stayed at 3:32 to 3:33. I ended up with 9, not wanting to completely kill myself my first week back and the week before my half. I was really suprised, excited, and thrilled. I am looking forward to faster workouts again.

Usually when we run 2 hrs on the trails we count it as 15 but there was a lot of climbing so i am going to say 14 miles. Snow Basin was gorgeous! It was nice for the first time to not rush home or rush to run. We all had husbands home that day and we all got to just enjoy a different run. A little longer then my normal race taper but I figured we went really easy and I could use along run.

warmup 2 miles. 5 miles tempo (5:43, 6:00 (hill) 5:48, 5:48, 6:00) 2.25 cool down. Nervous about racing so I think I held back last mile to play it safe. Felt okay not as good as I thought. Shoulders really tired from massaging.

Utah Valley Half Race. Disappointed with time. i have never been one to have run easy in a race. I always race and can honestly say I tried hard. 1:20 is a great time but not for me and I was truly disappointed with my time. I felt good until 8 miles and then struggled a little with a cramp trying to slow pace a little so it would go away...I know what happens if I don't d that. Then I could never regain on the leader but I tried until the very end to catch so this was an improvement. Then I saw my time and my heart sunk because I felt like I was running a good time even though I forgot my watch so I had no clue what my time was. At least I can say I did my best and I can only improve from here. There are a few things I need to do better to run better and one of the biggest things is sleep.

nice job yesterday. sorry it wasn't the time you wanted, but you raced well. i was rooting for you from afar to catch natalie (from my view it was green dot vs. pink dot) :)

way to fight for it all the way to the end.

23 weeks pregnant. Feeling pretty good. Ran 9 miles today. I have been finding that going over 65 mins is starting to hurt afterwards longer but really happy I can still go this far. =) Love being pregnant knowing whats coming in the near future. =)
